Mobile number numerology

You dial it, share it and see it more than almost any other number in your life. No wonder people want it to "fit".

The calculation, step by step

  1. Write the 10-digit number without the country code: 98765 43210.
  2. Add every digit: 9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1+0 = 45. Some practitioners read this total (the "compound") on its own.
  3. Reduce: 4+5 = 9. This is the root.
  4. Look up the root's character and ruler: 9 → Mars, energy and completion.
  5. Compare with your birth numbers: your Mulank (birth day reduced) and Bhagyank (whole date reduced).

Do it automatically

Common rules practitioners use

  • Prefer a root that is "friendly" to your Mulank in the traditional table.
  • Business numbers often aim for root 5 (Mercury — trade and communication) or 1 (Sun — leadership).
  • Many avoid roots 4 and 8, or too many repeated 4s and 8s, though some traditions value 8 for money.
  • Some avoid 0 at the end, and some look at the last four digits separately.

Rules differ between teachers, which is itself a reminder that this is tradition rather than law.

Before you change your number

A new number means updating your bank, UPI, Aadhaar-linked services, insurance, two-factor logins, business cards and every contact. A practical alternative: keep your current number and add a second SIM or eSIM for business with a root you like. And remember that portability lets you switch operators, not digits.

How to get a specific number

Operators sell "choice" or "fancy" numbers through their own apps and stores, and VIP number resellers sell numbers transferred into your name. Read our VIP number buyer's guide first, or request a shortlist.

For curiosity and personal preference. There's no evidence a phone number changes outcomes.
